On 1944-07-11, Pilot T H O Halliman (Flight Lieutenant, RCAF) with servicenumber J/8904 flew a Spitfire IX with serial NH325 H for this duty: Recce. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: The Spitfire Mk. IXe was accepted through No. 8 Maitnenance Unit at R.A.F. Station Little Rissington, Gloucestershire on the 15th of May 1944. It was taken on strength with No. 442 'Caribou' (F) Squadron at B. 3 (Ste. Croix-sur-Mer,, France) on the 15th of June 1944. During the afternoon of the 11th of July 1944, J8904 Flight Lieutenant Thomas Hubert Oscar Hallihan of Peterborough, Ontario was killed in action. During an afternoon armed recce, he carried out an a attack against a motor transport. Hallihan's Spitfire (coded Y2-H) was struck by flak in the vicinity of Conde. The last known siting of him was north of Mayenne. Flight Lieutenant Hallihan rests peacefully in the St. Manvieu British Cemetery. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 442. The location for the map is Cond?-sur-Noireau, France. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Halliman: he was killed. He is commemorated at: St. Manvieu War Cemetery Cheux, France.
