He never spoke about his experiences in WWII to me, (I was 11y/o when he died.) and we have very few records. His USAF records state that he was wounded on April 13, 1945. The best I can determine that was around Hollsteitz or Zeitz or somewhere in between. My older brother recalls him saying that he went in the line of fire to help a wounded comrade. He received a Purple Heart & a Bronze Star. Although the Bronze Star is not recognized on the 76th Infantry webpage.
This is all I know. I would love to know where he was wounded, what injuries he had, and any other details surrounding him or his particular group and their experiences. I realize there are not many of these heros left, but I thought I would give it a try!
