On Tuesday, 21 November 1944, (a part of) the aircraft of the 515 squadron (RAF), took off for a mission to an unknown place in Gemany from a station (airfield) in or near Little Snoring.
One of the crew members was Flight Lieutenant T F L'Amie DFC. He departed for his mission at 17:30.
He flew with a Mosquito (type VI, with serial PZ344 and code 3P-). His mission and of the other crew members was planned for Wednesday, 22 November 1944.
Thanks to Craig Benton for the crash location and information
The Mosquito was a Mk VI from 515 Sqn #PZ344 sqn code 3P, took off from "Little Snoring" UK at 17.30 and during a bomb attack against the railway station at Geldern was hit by light flak and crashed killing the crew.
The spot:
It seems as though the crew tried to land it in the Farmers field which is there today. It just missed the farm house and crashed into a small wood.
We have found many pieces, Ammunition, Transparencies. A Switch has also been found, bearing the P/N: N98868A, which does refer to a Mosquito, number 98 being the key factor.
Witnesses:
The older residents do/did seem to think that the A/C was British was flown by a 2 man crew, and was a Bomber. A Wheel assembly apparently landed on or next to an adjacent Farmhouse, and the A/C exploded shortly afterwards.
The wreckage remained untouched for about 2 weeks, after which the residents salvaged some of the fuselage and transparencies for domestic Building repair. A leg still inside a Flying Boot was also found by one of the Neighbours.
